Oman daily Observer - 8 August 2007 - A taste of Malaysia at Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa - By Ali Ahmed al Riyami
THE delightful ‘Malaysian Food Festival’ hosted by Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa concludes on August 10. During the 10-day-long festival, a team of chefs flown in from Shangri-La’s Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, have been offering diners a sumptuous evening buffet of Malaysian delicacies. Usually serving Latin American cuisine, the award winning, buffet style Samba Restaurant has been bringing a taste of Malaysia to Oman with talented Malaysian chefs, Namak Bukhairi and Edmond Sheong, showcasing many of their finest signature dishes in a live open kitchen every evening from 6:30 to 11 pm. To add to the atmosphere, the venue has been decorated to reflect traditional Malaysian ambiance, with music and entertainment provided to further enhance this authentic setting. “Malaysian cuisine is not simply one particular distinction of food, but a culinary diversity originating from the country’s multi-ethnic population of Malay, Indian, Eurasian, Chinese, Nyonya and the indigenous people of Borneo. A brief look into the past explains how Malaysia came to provide such a cosmic array of food, which is now known the world over as ‘Malaysian Food’,” said Chef Bukhari. In addition to mouth-watering dishes such as Ayam Kurma Berkentang — Spiced Chicken Curry with Potatoes, Daging Masak Merah — Braised Beef with Tomato and Chilli Pasta and Ikan Goreng Berlada — Stir Fried Fish with Fresh Chilli, guests will have the opportunity to win some amazing prizes, including weekend breaks at one of Shangri-La’s many hotels around the world.
